Thoughts on US Government: In the United States, the Republican Party is obviously in disarray: unpopular, rudderless and without purpose. Their spokespeople ridicule the Obama initiatives at evey press opportunity but offer no inkling of workable alternatives. The Democratic Party, on the other hand, whilst sustaining a healthy internal difference of opinion on certain subjects, has a most powerful and profound asset. A leader who has no intention of doing anything but lead. (That would be the President of the United States), and a team of energetic Democrat law-makers with a people-focused supportive attitude and an eye to the future health and prosperity of the nation. However, since a full 40% of voters, perhaps more, are Republican inclined, why doesn't the Republican Party find themselves a new leader who would be followed and supported? In my opinion, this will require the resignation of all the Republican senators and congresspersons who hold tenaciously to the ego-driven and inflexible attitudes of a past era and to the appointment to leadership of someone of relative youth and energy with strong domestic and international management skills. Would such a person be so difficult to find and would the old guard be prepared to get out of the way to let this person revitalize the party? We can't have a one party government with no checks and balances indefinitely so let's hope so.
